Location: The Music Neighborhood adjacent to the train station.
Anyone who visits Sderot will observe a lot of greenery: trees planted for beautification of the landscape and for shade, grass lawns, groomed streets and parks, and large playgrounds, reflecting an investment of tens of millions of shekels in recent years.
One of the parks in the area doing justice to the investment, and attracting masses of people from other communities in the area is the Music Park, in the Music Neighborhood. The neighborhood is luxurious, filled with hundreds of housing units, villas constructed according to the government's "Build Your Own Home" options. The neighborhood and the park are just a short walk from the Sderot Train Station.
The Music Park is the largest park in the western Negev, spread over almost 10 acres, with a beautiful artificial lake at its center, occupying just less than one acre. There is a grandstand with seating around it, and there is a bridge from the center of the grandstand leading to an island at the center of the lake. In the future, in order to complete this picturesque scene, there will be boats in the lake for visitors to use.
As part of the green, climate-sensitive thinking in Sderot, an area of 300 m2 has been designated as wetland for plant purification. The lake water overflows into the area of the wetland where it will be filtered and cleaned by the plants themselves, and then returned to the lake. This just adds to the rich vegetation on the lake shores, further aided by the work of the cleaner fish that purify the lake water in a natural and ecological manner.
Not far from the lake, a wide range of new and advanced amusement facilities have been installed for use by toddlers, children, and adults. Some of the sliding boards have even been adapted for use by adults. The park area includes sports fields for soccer, basketball, tennis, etc.
There are over 500 smart lights in the park operated by a remote control system. When only a minimum of guests are in the park, the dimming feature is activated. The lighting can also be intensified as needed, automatically and remotely.
The Music Neighborhood is growing too. Another 488 housing units are expected to be built in the neighborhood, 196 of them by the "Build Your Own Home" method. In September 2022, the development works for these units should be completed.
As a lesson learned from the period of Covid lockdowns which closed schools and extracurricular programs, the municipality decided to build a public Ninja area in the park to make it possible for the city's children to enjoy using outdoor facilities. The area will be divided into two parts, suited to different age groups, providing children and adults with space to exercise and get a workout. An hourglass will be placed in the Ninja area where everyone can measure results and improve performance. For extreme lovers, the facilities will include a swinging bridge, bicycle wheels, tubing, snake climbing, a floating shelf, a climbing wall, a bazaar, Omega, spider web, floating doors, etc.
The space is open to the public at no charge.
